China Kite Festival 19th to 23rd August

This year was slightly different. My first ever Kitesurfing competition was held in China Qingdao Binhai Weifang Invitational Kitesurfing Tournament China. I was stoked about meeting all the kitesurfers from different countries I'm sure this will be one of the best trip. This invitational event hosted by the provincial Government of the Shandong province Qingdao.


Its funny my roommate was korean who just played normal kite so i took the chance of using my korean language skills into play and all of us click well and do the talk the talk. Met the kiters for the very first everyone was saying hi and where they from. Everyone had no idea of what they are doing there like really confuse and blur about how things will turn out.

The first day of the Event was just huge. I didnt expect much crowds but it turned out to be massive. The local turned out to be outgoing it was like 500 people watching at the event. There were total of 30 riders from different countries and 20 from China. Every Rider had their own translator so we really treated like a rockstar.


I was representing for Singapore the event was so huge the opening ceremony was excellent. All of the participants had to walk on the stage like rock stars and i'm expecting the closing will be big too.

I brought myself a size 9m and 11m Crazyfly Trix i'm Light Weight it was just perfect size for me. On the 1st day of the event I was ready to launch my 11 for the race, but then decided to launch the 9, I was powered up, so settled on the 11 which had more power.

We had a course race. Everyone was stocked for the race the wind blew hard on the 1st of the event. Eventually it was pretty light. The wind picked up and everyone had a blast we had 2 attempts on the race 1st attempt everyone had a false start.
2 attempt was just light winds.

On the 2nd day we had both freestyle and race and it turn out to be good. Kiter such as Eli Zarka, Antoine Auriol, Anton, Lex and many others was showing such a good show. It was the 1st time meeting them and they were such down to earth and everybody was having a lot of fun during the heat.

My 1st Heat was with Antoine Auriol, Brian C Ray. I was pretty amazed i had to battle the heat with Auriol from kiteloose a KPWT pro. It was so much fun everyone was just out to have fun doesn't matter who is good. Auriol said "man this is gonna be fun". i didn't go through to the next heat but it was fun watching all the riders showing their moves! it was just something else.

After kiting for 3 days straight. We hanged out at the lobby and had a jamming session the man who light it up for Cedric from south africa. He was the man.


The Closing ceremony was just awesome everyone was enjoying their food and presentation. It was just one the best closing i've ever seen. Everyone was taking photos eating shouting and just doing what we do best party!!!!





It was such a fun event for everyone. I learn alot during this event. I really hope to see all of these bunch again next year. Till then See you Soon!!!
